A recall has been ordered of certain 2009 and 2010 model years of Harley-Davidson Touring motorcycles that could affect more than 111,000 vehicles, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Touring motorcycles are manufactured in York County.
The administration lists that Harley is recalling the motorcycles because frontal fuel tank mounts might distort during a frontal crash, which could cause a fuel leak.
If ignited, the leaked fuel could cause injury or death, according to the recall statement.
Recall-related repairs to install braces to reduce the distortion are scheduled to be available at dealerships free of charge beginning on or about Monday.
A Harley spokesman was not immediately available for comment Wednesday. It was not known how much the recall could cost the company.
Touring motorcycles are one of the two major families of motorcycles built in York County, along with Softail models.
According to the NHTSA, the recall affects a production stretch from June 6, 2008, to Nov. 19 of this year.
Yearly shipment numbers have been in flux for the last few years as demand has waned for its products, but Harley shipped about 101,887 Touring motorcycles total to dealers in 2008, according to the company's yearly earnings statement from January.
