2010 World Championship of Custom Bike Building

Freddie 'Krugger' Bertrand is now wearing the World Champions' ring after being named the 2010 AMD World Champion of Custom Bike Building.
The bike with which he claimed the title was built for Veon Motorcycle's owner Peer Toftner and features a unique electronically adjustable frame system developed by Peer (pictured, left, with World Champion 'Freddie' Krugger) in conjunction with Dutch designer Mark van der Kwaak. At the flick of a switch the V-Rod engined bike can be transformed from a low-riding cruiser with long rake to sport bike mode with a shorter wheelbase and steeper rake. The radical machine even has two sets of foot controls to match each style of riding.
Krugger's win in the Championship follows on from third places in both 2004 and 2005, a 13th place in 2008 and another third last year.
My personal favourite is the bike that finished 2nd, "Sniper" by Thunderstruck Custom Bikes. Pictured below.

Spotted this old Sunbeam recently. The 5 litres of oil strapped to the back is a bit worrying.

Harley-Davidson recalls Touring models

A recall has been ordered of certain 2009 and 2010 model years of Harley-Davidson Touring motorcycles that could affect more than 111,000 vehicles, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Touring motorcycles are manufactured in York County.
The administration lists that Harley is recalling the motorcycles because frontal fuel tank mounts might distort during a frontal crash, which could cause a fuel leak.

We were all set for the Reading Toy Run on Sunday and went to pick up the bike from the lock-up where I keep it. Now the lock-up is pretty secure as their is an 8ft high wall and an 8ft high gate. Add to that a direct alarm link to the local police station and I can sleep well that the Harley is safe and sound.
All of the above is great unless you walk out to warm the bike up and the wind slams the door shut and you realise all the keys are inside. A trip home to grab various implements that might aid my breaking and entering skills and we're beginning to run late. Thirty minutes and a bent meat skewer later and we're on the road, so much for my security.
Less than two miles up the road and one of the very expensive Willie G mirrors decides it's had enough of being a wing mirror and strips a thread and is flapping about in the wind with all the dexterity of a drunken cat on wet lino. Back to the lock-up and a quick fix to the indicator the mirror was attached to as it's also flapping about. By this time we've missed the start of the run and with an hour ride to even get to the meeting point we gave it a miss. Shame, but I guess that's Harley's, they vibrate and things fall off.
The world’s first Harley backflip
Posted on December 2, 2009 | Filed Under Biker News | Comments Off
The world's first Harley backflip took place a couple of days ago. Both Kain Saul in Australia and Chuck Carothers in Prague completed the stunt on Harley XR1200's on the same day. Chuck failed to make a clean landing and there is some controversy over who actually holds the record.
Perhaps they should have a jump off using Fat Boy's to determine the true winner.
Last drinks for motorcycle club?

ANTI-BIKIE laws have come to bear on a Murray Bridge motorcycle group in what the club is calling an attack on its reputation.
The Murray Bridge chapter of the Longriders Christian Motorcycle Club claims it was told it would be denied a limited liquor licence for a regular open night on November 13 because the application had been received late and because the Longriders had associated with outlaw bikies at a poker run earlier this year.

An interesting article by a full patch member of God's Squad CMC relating his experience of being arrested (wrongfully) and his subsequent aquittal.
It's really quite frightening what happened to him and the "powers" the police were able to use.
You can read the article on the United Motorcycle Council NSW web site.

Statement by Mark Le Grand on the Proposed Criminal Organisations Bill
The proposed bikie gang laws in Queensland are deeply concerning on two bases, first, the proposed laws would lead to the abrogation of basic legal rights which have been central to the operation of the common law for hundreds of years, including the fundamental right to a fair trial, and second, that there is little evidence that these laws are required in Queensland or that they are likely to be effective.

For most of his years, Richie Kane struggled through a living hell of physical and sexual abuse, alcoholism and membership in one of the most notorious gangs in the country.
But now this former Hells Angel is empowered with a new force. Kane has chronicled his journey to a better life in a self-published book called "The Bronx Street Kid: Into 12-Step Recovery." He sees it as a way for him to pass on the hope he has now embraced.
"God has been so kind to me," he says, "allowed me the strength to come back."
