Harley-Davidson recalls Touring models
Posted on December 10, 2009 | Filed Under Biker News | Comments Off
A recall has been ordered of certain 2009 and 2010 model years of Harley-Davidson Touring motorcycles that could affect more than 111,000 vehicles, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Touring motorcycles are manufactured in York County.
The administration lists that Harley is recalling the motorcycles because frontal fuel tank mounts might distort during a frontal crash, which could cause a fuel leak.

We were all set for the Reading Toy Run on Sunday and went to pick up the bike from the lock-up where I keep it. Now the lock-up is pretty secure as their is an 8ft high wall and an 8ft high gate. Add to that a direct alarm link to the local police station and I can sleep well that the Harley is safe and sound.
All of the above is great unless you walk out to warm the bike up and the wind slams the door shut and you realise all the keys are inside. A trip home to grab various implements that might aid my breaking and entering skills and we're beginning to run late. Thirty minutes and a bent meat skewer later and we're on the road, so much for my security.
Less than two miles up the road and one of the very expensive Willie G mirrors decides it's had enough of being a wing mirror and strips a thread and is flapping about in the wind with all the dexterity of a drunken cat on wet lino. Back to the lock-up and a quick fix to the indicator the mirror was attached to as it's also flapping about. By this time we've missed the start of the run and with an hour ride to even get to the meeting point we gave it a miss. Shame, but I guess that's Harley's, they vibrate and things fall off.
The world’s first Harley backflip
Posted on December 2, 2009 | Filed Under Biker News | Comments Off
The world's first Harley backflip took place a couple of days ago. Both Kain Saul in Australia and Chuck Carothers in Prague completed the stunt on Harley XR1200's on the same day. Chuck failed to make a clean landing and there is some controversy over who actually holds the record.
Perhaps they should have a jump off using Fat Boy's to determine the true winner.

For most of his years, Richie Kane struggled through a living hell of physical and sexual abuse, alcoholism and membership in one of the most notorious gangs in the country.
But now this former Hells Angel is empowered with a new force. Kane has chronicled his journey to a better life in a self-published book called "The Bronx Street Kid: Into 12-Step Recovery." He sees it as a way for him to pass on the hope he has now embraced.
"God has been so kind to me," he says, "allowed me the strength to come back."

For over a year now I've been on the lookout for a decent Harley Street Bob. After looking at many bikes I finally found the one I was searching for via a friend of a friend. It's a 2006 FXDBI with only 2100 miles on the clock.

Old School Harley Knucklehead Bobber
Posted on November 1, 2009 | Filed Under Biker News | Comments Off
Our intended visit to Bath didn't happen, we decided to visit Salisbury instead. This turned out to be a good decision as we wouldn't have had enough time to see Bath properly.
Salisbury is a lovely city with a nice feel about it. On the Saturday after a few more hours in Salisbury we headed towards the New Forest and in a small village called Downton we discovered BurnOut Bikes. Parked outside was a very nice FXR but the real delights were inside. They have just finished a Knucklehead Bobber ready for a show in Holland next week. Seems I beat Back Street Hero's to some pictures as it will be featured in the said mag in a future issue!
Original frame was modified, not your usual after market job.

A very sad day for Buell
Posted on October 17, 2009 | Filed Under Biker News | Comments Off
I've never actually owned a Buell, although I did come very close to buying one earlier this year. They have always seemed a bit quirky to me and quirky is something I like. Much like the closure of BSA, Norton and other bike manufacturers the news that Harley Davidson are pulling the plug on Buell production is very sad.
I wish Erik Buell the very best for the future having taken a risk pursuing his dream for over 25 years.

- Harley Davidson reports sales down 21 percent – Buell production to stop – MV Agusta for sale

Following the announcement that worldwide retail sales of new bikes were down 21% in the third quarter of 2009, Harley Davidson are embarking on a massive restructuring programme which includes the sale of the Italian MV Agusta company and the shutdown of production of Buell motorcycles within weeks.
More than 500 jobs have already been cut from Harley's local operations, in addition to having scheduled four full shutdown weeks and two partial ones. The Buell decision will result in Harley eliminating about 80 hourly positions and about 100 other jobs, most of which is scheduled to happen by Dec. 18.
